Angiotensin II increases blood pressure. Losartan competes specifically with angiotensin II, an inducer of biological hypertension, for binding with the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1) mainly in the vascular smooth muscle. This action consequently relieves vasoconstriction and reduces blood pressure.
