LY294002 is a highly cell-permeable, specific phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3-kinase) inhibitor (IC50 = 1.4 micro M) that acts on the ATP binding site. It does not affect the activity of EGF receptor kinase, MAP kinase, PKC, PI4-kinase, S6 kinase, and c-src at 50 micro M. It inhibits the proliferation of rabbit aorta smooth muscle cells without inducing apoptosis. It is also reported to inhibit histamine secretion by RBL-2H3 cells (IC50 = 5 micro M).
