This substance binds with Wnt-3a and maintains proliferation and pluripotency of mouse ES cells in the absence of serum. IQ-1 and Wnt-3a increase expression of Oct4 and Sox2, which are transcription factors essential for maintenance of ES cells. IQ-1 also plays an important role in the balance of autoproliferation and differentiation of stem cells and decreases expression of c-Myc that promotes differentiation.
