Miglitol inhibits degradation from disaccharides to monosaccharides in the brush-border membrane of epithelial cells in small intestinal mucosa and delays digestion and absorption of carbohydrates. It exhibited inhibitory effects on sucrase and isomaltase derived from rat small intestines about 6 times and 120 times higher than those of acarbose.
