Podoplanin is a type I transmembrane protein with a number of reported effects, and also known as Aggrus, gp44, and T1α. It has a platelet aggregation-stimulating (PLAG) domain at the N-terminus.
Podoplanin is not expressed in vascular endothelial cells but present in lymphatic endothelial cells. Its use as a lymph vessel marker is being explored. As podoplanin expression is elevated in a variety of tumors, studies are being conducted for its use as a tumor marker. The podolanin level has been reported to be increased in brain tumors depending on the degree of malignancy.
This monoclonal antibody recognizes the PLAG domain of podoplanin.
